The Prayer Is For Surrender

I am not 5. Yet sometimes I find myself praying to God as if he is Santa Claus. So maybe I am 5.

Lots of people say that you should pray for the path to be cleared. I am beginning to think, that you should pray for the strength to clear the path.

What do you think?

Wendy, that is the prayer of a mature adult, not a 5 year old anticipating Christmas. They say "God helps those who help themselves." Well, to pray for strength allows you to help yourself -- and serve as a role model to others who may need it.

I am adopting your attitude!

I think of Anne Lamott. She's got two prayers: "Please, please, please!" and "Thank you, thank you, thank you!" That works for me. I wish you peace.

Faith without works is, well, non-productive. Clear that path!

But (as a lover of Anne Lamott myself), I'd surely add both of those as well!

I have lost the ability to pray at all.

I have lost faith.

I have friends praying for me, and I cherish their prayers.

I have lost the ability to pray at all.

Whose to say that won't come back. Life is never stagnant.

Don't be too hard on yourself ... if you need help it's there I believe.

I'm thinking I need to start praying for the strength to clear the path too! I keep hoping and praying it'll clear itself!
But you're right adults need to take some responsibility for what happens in their life and stop waiting for God or someone else to do the hard work for them. I may be talking to myself there!
I think your post was maybe just what I needed to read right now!

Such a short, little post and so powerful - like so much of you writing. I pray that you get what you need.
